A rarity in Atlantic Canada, Ben’s Lake Campground (now Ben’s Lake Nature Camping) has been an iconic landmark in the heart of Eastern Kings County, Prince Edward Island. The destination features a 160-acre old-growth forest sitting on a 16-acre rainbow trout-stocked lake. We offer a great selection of RV sites and nature camping sites, as well as backwoods sites for the more adventurous nature lover. But the magic of Ben’s Lake is the wide range of interactive experiences we offer on a regular basis or customized to suit you, your family or groups.

Local Host and Interpreter Josh Lindsay is an avid outdoors enthusiast, who is keenly excited to share his appreciation for nature. Ben’s Lake is the perfect place for Josh being that he is a Sport and Recreation Programmer, turned Wildlife Conservation Biologist. He loves interacting with the guests, sharing his wealth of knowledge, and creating an experience that makes you want to come back and explore more.

Wildlife and Ecology

Being PEI’s only campground located on a lake and old growth forest, we are surrounded by a 360 degree view of nature. As you travel through the well established trail systems of our property, the forest ecosystem transitions from the oldest stand of Red Pine on PEI to mixed Acadian softwood, to the most beautiful Old Growth Forest including 300-400 year old Easterm Hemlock and veneer grade Sugar Maple. Ben’s Lake is a safe haven for local wildlife being that it offers a wide range of habitats for a number of native species. Whether you’re spotting Bald Eagles taking a dive to grab a 12 pound Rainbow Trout, or a local beaver slapping his tail as you kayak by, there is always something to see. Families of American Mink playfully scurry through the woods, as native reptiles and amphibians hide under every stone, all while hearing owls hoot throughout the night.
